4 Important Tricks To Make Working From Home Bearable

When the lockdowns were implemented, many of us who could work from home were relieved. Not just because they still had jobs, but because they finally got to prove that working remotely was the best way forward. But alas there were challenges, and it wasn’t as great as they first thought. That doesn’t mean it can’t be though, and with the below tricks, work, and life, in general, can become a lot more fruitful.

Balance Is Key

If you’ve watched “The Karate Kid” then you’ll know that one of the most important lessons Mr. Miyagi taught Daniel was that balance was key, in karate, and in life. These sentiments are no more important than in today’s day and age where people are struggling to adjust to the new normal and find a routine that works. But there are tricks to improve this. These include setting workplace time boundaries, and workspace boundaries, with office space, cut off from the rest of the house with a door. Used to working through lunch? Don’t, because this also helps with balance, and the cutting off from work is good for the other aspects of your life.

Get Back To Your Daily Routine

As mentioned before, working from home has thrown people off their regular morning routine. But getting back to it is crucial since it can reduce stress and anxiety. It includes getting up and going to bed at the same time daily and allowing for optimal sleep time. But it can also extend to setting up a regular time for other interests.

Take Things Personally

No, not as in the opposite of being mindful, but taking more time to get personal with people around you. Working remotely can lead to isolation since there is none of the regular colleague interaction common in the office space. It’s seen as important for morale and to avoid isolation, to make conversation with colleagues outside of work talk, and to also connect with family and friends, by taking time out of the work schedule.

Mindfulness Can Reduce Stress

Believe it or not, working from home is not less stressful than being in the office. A boss peering over your shoulder is replaced by an even more stressful boss messaging you every five minutes to ensure you’re compiling that report, and not playing PS4. But being mindful can alleviate that stress. The idea of being mindful is analyzing each experience without judgment, taking a more objective approach to life. This helps to become less caught up in negative feelings.
